6 Easy Dental Hygiene Tips for Healthy Teeth That Really Work

People crave a bright smile, and pearly, healthy teeth are the basis of it. If you keep good oral hygiene and visit your dentist regularly – you are there. Your teeth will be in good shape, and you will surely feel confident enough to smile at all times. Unfortunately, there are people who try to take proper oral care but simply can’t manage it. They either do it wrong or are not informed enough.

Brush Your Teeth and Mouth Properly

Yes, proper brushing doesn’t focus merely on your teeth. You need to brush the gums, the tongue, and the roof of your mouth as well. Many people don’t cover the whole inside of their mouth. Remember, these need to be cleaned too.

When you start, first make sure that you use proper oral care products, and then hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle close to the gum line. The bristles of the toothbrush should touch both the teeth and the gum. When brushing, be mindful of your movements. Use back and forth, and up and down hand gestures for perfect results. You should do the same for the inner surface of your mouth, teeth, and gums.

After you are done, next you need to gently brush the surface of your tongue and the roof of your mouth. Rough brushing can lead to wounds, and it can do more harm than good. That is for sure.

Floss Daily

Brushing is mandatory, but it is not the only procedure you need to go through if you want to clean your teeth thoroughly. The bristles don’t get to the area that is between your teeth. Food particles get stuck here and can cause bacteria to spread. Flossing regularly will get rid of any residue and will leave you feeling fresh as a daisy.

Make Sure That Your Diet Is Good for Your Teeth

Many don’t consider the effects of food on their teeth before tasting it. Being delicious is the primary goal. Well, next time you decide to indulge in something, make sure that it is not bad for your teeth. If it is, brush right after you finish eating so that you can avoid any permanent damages. As for whats teeth-friendly… you can eat nuts, fruits (especially apples), cheese, vegetables and chicken without feeling guilty.

Limit the Intake of Sodas, Alcohol, and Tobacco

First of all, tobacco. Run from it. All tobacco products are harmful to your general health, including your mouth hygiene, as well. Staying clear of tobacco products can help you stay clear of oral cancer too. Plus, these products cause bad breath, and no one wants that, right?

Besides tobacco, you should also avoid sodas and alcohol too. As much as you possibly can. These drinks contain phosphorus. Over time, too much phosphorus will deplete the calcium level in your body. This can lead to tooth decay and gum disease. Instead, drink lots of water. It will keep you healthy and hydrated at all times.

Visit Your Dentist Regularly

Even if you use the tips mentioned earlier, you still need to do your regular dentist checkups. No excuses. Also, when you do everything right, full oral checkups and teeth cleaning are a great way to stay on the right path of having a healthy mouth.

Leave a Bit Fluoride in Your Mouth Before You Go to Bed

The main reason why toothpaste contains fluoride is that it strengthens the surface of your teeth. So, why rinse it off entirely after brushing? Leaving a bit of your toothpaste in your mouth during the day may seem illogical, but leaving some while you sleep can be a great idea. By doing so, you will let the fluoride sit on your teeth for a longer time and do its magic.
